GREATER HYANNIS CIVIC ASSOCIATION

EXECUTIVE BOARD MINUTES

MARCH 10, cheap 2015

Speaker:   Stephen Vollenburg , and Sr. Power Planer Cape Light Compact

He provided insight and information as to why our electric rates are dramatically increasing.  Much of the price increase is directly driven by insufficient natural gas, seek and insufficient high tension transmission lines from the Canadian grid.  He advised that there are other companies providing lower initial electric rates, however one should review their contract.  He also stated that Compact Light who would rejoin them, would be at a higher rate.

Old Business:

Committee Assignments:   President Cronin handed out the assignment opportunities.

Membership:   The question raised was “What do I get for my membership?”– a discount card; some public awareness and being watchful of major town wide, as well as Hyannis issues.  What is the true objectives of the GHCA, why are members not interested in the issues, is the Town not recognizing the GHCA;  is the membership just making a donation versus paying membership fee.  It was suggested that a survey on line might have value.  Larry Decker said he would call every Board member prior to the meeting.

Fire Department:  There is a voting meeting to approve $825,000 from the stabilization fund.  There are currently no cost estimates nor is there any list of what is to be repaired.  The meeting is to be held on April 8, 2015, beginning at 7:PM at the Barnstable Middle School.

There is a fire committee mtg on Thursday, March 12, at 7PM at the station.

New Business:

Parking Lots:   Allan G. & Bill C. attended a subcommittee of the Town Council chaired by Jen Cullum.  There was discussion on valet parking,  but no discussion on the use of satellite bus service.  Next mtg scheduled for March 20th, 4PM   and another on March 26th, at 6PM .

Nominating Committee:  Allan G. advised that they did  meet on Feb 25th.  Currently Bill Cronin will remain as President, Deb Krau, Vice Pres.  Ralph Krau as Sec; Larry Decker as Treas.;  Tony P. Brad P; Kathy S. Dave J, . Uta Q, Allan, G. will remain on the Board.  The nominating Committee will contact the other Board members to gauge their interest in remaining on the Board.  They are also seeking other suitable new candidates for the Board.

The HFD Candidates night will be held on April 21 at 7PM  at the Town Hall.  Bob Ciolek will moderate.

GHCA Annual Mtg.  The dates of May 19th & 20th need to be changed due to conflicts.
