Excused:         Chris Bartley, Bob Ciolek, Debra Dagwan, Barb Flinn, Ed Mackay, Uta Quint, Gloria Rudman

President Cronin opened the meeting at 7:05PM

Guests:  Geoff Spillane, Cape Cod Times; Milt Berglund,  Chair Hyannis garden spot;  Mary Cadigan  (7- 11)

The minutes of April 14, 2015 were unanimously approved

Treasurer’s Report Deb K. advised that the GHCA had received a check in the amount of $750 from the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce for use in parades and other community events.  Our balance as of May 12, 2015 is $4770.92.     Unanimously approved.

GHCA Garden Spot:  Milt Berglund circulated a sign up sheet for care taking; He advised that John Doherty would continue to mow the property, and that he would need a budget of $150 for the year 2015-16.  New plants will be planted when water is available.  He advised that he would need about $50 for mulch and that he would add some fall color; also he would like to give a gift certificate to John Doherty for his weekly mowing .

Mary Cadigan, Market Manager for 7-11  Inc.  for Southern New England:   She addressed the issues of security systems being put into place and up dated,  the concerns of the bathrooms that had been open and are now locked, the concerns of the back door accessibility, and the “hang out” by those less fortunate causing issues on Main Street in Hyannis.  7-11 stated they wish to be proactive with other business neighbors, offering community support with parades, hosting, etc.  They also stated that their sales associates are going for additional specialized training.

Correspondence:     notices were received from CCMM on their Marine flee market; a donation request from HySOY in the amount of $150 for kites for the year-end mentoring party;  and that HySOY  now has 23 adults mentoring for 4 yrs.   Hyannis Library is seeking $150 for its Pitter- Patter Puppet show.  Motion made and 2nd to fund these requests    Passed unanimously

Old Business:

Day Center for the homeless:  The Concept Statement for a Day Center has been approved by the Day Center Steering Committee.  GHCA was advised that there are some 20 hard core cases on the streets, who do not wish to comply.  GHCA was asked to endorse the concept statement.  The Board approved unanimously.

Fund raising business memberships:   Brad P. said that some 15 to 20 applications have been handed out to businesses.  To date no response   They seem to be a hard sell, with a number of challenges with the BID and the HACC.

Fire Department:  Deb K. advised she was running for moderator of the Fire District.  Bill C. advised that there was a meeting on May 14th.  There have been three bids for the 2 parcels , however all the bids were for the property along Bearse’s Way and none for the “old” fire house property in Hyannisport.

The Fire District elections will be on Tuesday May 19th at the HYCC and the Annual Meeting will be in Knight Hall of the BHS on Wednesday, May 20th.  Comments were made that they were not using their “white board” outside of their building to promote the election and the Annual meeting.

Review of Candidates Night; Comments were that it went very well and that there were some 80+ in the audience.

New Business:

Parking Lots: The Board was advised that they were creating an “overlay” district;  the Mcavoy lots are closed;  concern  of what will happen to the 200+ cars that they park, as to where will they go?  It was suggested that they try the airport with a shuttle service; and again the issues is who pays the expenses?

Private Roads:  on hold.  Town Council denied funding for the indexing of them

By Law review(s)   on hold for the next meeting

GHCA Annual Meeting:   to be held on Tuesday, June 16, at the lower level of the Hyannis Yacht club.  Speakers are Paul Niedzwiecki, Exec. Director, Cape Cod Commission, speaking on our waste water  challenges;  Mark Ells, Assistant Town Manager,  who will talk on current and future Town issues, and Representative Brian Mannal, who will speak on happenings at the State House.

Laura C. will handle putting together a raffle basket with Tony P.  There is a need for staffing, dues sign in, etc..  Dues were recommended to remain at $20, and to continue to use the discount card and to procure 200 of them.

Next meeting is scheduled for June 9, 2015.

Meeting adjourned at 8:45PM

Respectfully submitted,

Ralph M. Krau,

Secretary
