The Hyannis HyArts Artist Shanty Program began in 2005, as the first in a series of arts related strategies designed to provide opportunities and exposure for local artists; enliven the economic climate in downtown Hyannis; and to establish an important vibrant backdrop for year round residents and visitors. The response to the Harbor your Arts (HyA) Shanty Program has been overwhelmingly positive.

The shanties are open weekends mid-May through mid-June and then on a daily basis through the end of September.   Work is hand made or hand crafted, and all artists are from Cape Cod.   A variety of work is represented including a wide variety of jewelry, paintings, photography, visual art, wood carving, fine Cape Cod inspired crafts, fiber arts, ceramics, rope work, glass work and more.    Literary arts are represented and each year local libraries participate as well.

During the season a variety of musical entertainment is offered and street performers are encouraged to participate.   For information contact Melissa Hersh at 508-862-4767 or email at melissa.hersh@town.barnstable.ma.us

This artist program is made possible in cooperation with the Town of Barnstable, the Main Street Business Improvement District (BID), Arts Foundation of Cape Cod (AFCC), Cape Cod Art Association (CCAA) and the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce.                                                                                              ###
