Garden Spot Still Needs Help

Uncle Sam

Calling all GHCA members, information pills their spouses, recipe and friends!

It’s time to start pulling details together for the Hyannis July 4th parade.   “Main Street USA” – that’s this year’s theme, and the Civic Association’s is proud to come together with the community to show-off our Main Street help make the parade a fun and successful event for all who attend.

Once again we are looking for individuals to volunteer for the following activities

  • Carry a banner in the parade – we have three banners (Barnstable town banner, Grand Marshall banner, and GHCA banner)
  • Serve as parade monitors – each will be assigned one block on one side of Main Street on the parade route to hand out small flags and then monitor the block to make sure people stand back.  Join with a spouse or friend!
  • Help with the children’s bike contest, judging, and parade

We need 25+ volunteers all together, so please let us know if you are willing to help, and which activity most appeals to you

Please respond by email or call Paulette Rio at 508-778-2270. Include your t-shirt size (men’s sizes for all).

Thanks!
Many thanks to those of you who volunteered to help out at the Robbins Park at the corner of South Street and Pleasant Street in Hyannis. The work involves weeding, medications dead-heading spent flowers with clippers, about it and picking up any trash or debris. Work shouldn’t take much more than a hour or so — can be done on any one day during the week indicated below.  No watering is required because there is an irrigation system at the Park  J. Doherty of the Greater Hyannis Civic Association does the mowing and trimming, sales placing grass clippings generously in the rows to keep the weeds down. That helps a lot. Therefore we don’t expect much need for soil tilling.

All fertilizing (bone meal and compost) has been done during this spring. New phlox have been planted to replace those that died when the irrigation system failed last summer.

The following are the weeks already assigned, beginning on Saturdays.  We are still looking for volunteers to take over at least some of the June/July weeks assigned by default to Milton.
