The Cape Cod Commission has completed 30% design plans and preliminary cost estimate for a proposed bio-filtration system to address stormwater runoff at the Horace Mann Charter School in Hyannis. The plans were prepared with the assistance of consultant Tetra Tech through a grant received from the EPA. Commission staff would like to present the plans to the Hyannis Civic Association at one of your upcoming meetings.

Greater Hyannis Civic Association Board Meeting Report – March 12, 2013

The following topics were discussed at the March Board of Directors Meeting.

Chris Bartley from the Hyannis Youth Commission has asked to join our Board meetings.  We welcome participation from the Youth Commission and will invite him to attend in April.

The Hyannis Chamber of Commerce has granted the GHCA $1, 268 for calendar year 2013.  This grant will be put to good use funding the various GHCA events for 2013.

The Land Acquisition and Preservation committee will be invited to our April Board meeting for a discussion on open space and protecting our watershed.

April General Meeting with the Town Councilors on April 17 at 7pm will be a more informal meeting with chairs and tables set up in a square in the Councilors’ Room at the Town Hall.  The GHCA will send in advance a list of topics that we would like the Town Councilors to comment on, and Bob Ciolek will serve as moderator.  All citizens of Barnstable are invited to attend.

May Annual GHCA Members Meeting will be held at the Hyannis Yacht Club on May 21 at 5:30pm.  Ideas for topics are the Fire Station Building Project and an update on the Landlords, Regulations, and Rental ordinances. Final agenda to be determined.  Members are encouraged to renew their dues at this meeting.

The GHCA Nominating Committee would like to know who on the Board would prefer not to serve another year.  The Nominating Committee will fill the vacancies.  Also, the Chairmen of the various GHCA Committees will be reviewed at the April Board meeting to ensure all committees are intact.

Membership drive:  each member of the Board has been asked to bring to the April Board meeting a list of 5 or more names and addresses of citizens to receive a letter of introduction to the GHCA.  The names will be vetted against our membership list and then a letter will be developed to accompany our brochure for either mailing or hand-delivering.

Fire Station Building Committee: Progress has been made on the design of the building.  The building will consist of a 3-story administrative wing attached to the actual fire station apparatus section of the building.  The final cost will soon be released by the committee.

South Street Armory: one response to the RFP was received (Pirates’ Museum), which has been included on the town’s web site.  Bill Cronin asked each Board member to review the document on the web site and come prepared to discuss at the April Board meeting.

Voices of the Village:  The Board agreed to grant $150 to Hyannis Supporting Our Youth – this effort is a valuable service to greater Hyannis and we are pleased to support its continued effort.   The Town Council will hold a workshop on March 14 to review and finalize the remaining Landlord, Regulations, and Rentals ordinances (noise and maintenance).

Hyannis Distillery:  The GHCA is highly in favor of a distillery being located in town, but is concerned with the current proposed location next to Luke’s on Barnstable Road near the airport rotary.  That is a very congested area already.  The Board agreed to send a letter to the Planning Board stating our concerns.

The GHCA is in need of additional fund raising activities, and the idea of selling water, popcorn, cookies, etc. at the Father’s Day Car Show was discussed.

The GHCA will meet for iths monthly meeting on April 9 in the Steamship Authority conference room on School Street.  The Land Acquisition and Preservation Committee has been invited to attend for a discussion of its work in Hyannis, West Hyannis, and Hyannisport.  All GHCA members are invited to attend.
The Annual GHCA Members Meeting will be held at the Hyannis Yacht Club on Tuesday, May 21 beginning with networking at 5:30pm and the meeting commencing at 6pm.  The agenda will cover an update on the Landlords, Rental, and Regulation ordinances, and also an update on the Hyannis Solid Waste effort.  Light refreshments will be served with a cash bar.  Members are encouraged to renew their dues at this meeting. Parking for this meeting is in the lot to the left of the Yacht Club, and the entrance to the meeting is on the left on the ground level.

April General Meeting with the Town Councilors on April 17 at 7pm will be a more informal meeting with chairs and tables set up in a square in the Councilors’ Room at the Town Hall.  The GHCA will send in advance a list of topics that we would like the Town Councilors to comment on, and Bob Ciolek will serve as moderator.  All citizens of Barnstable are invited to attend.

May Annual GHCA Members Meeting will be held at the Hyannis Yacht Club on May 21 at 5:30pm.  Ideas for topics are the Fire Station Building Project and an update on the Landlords, Regulations, and Rental ordinances. Final agenda to be determined.  Members are encouraged to renew their dues at this meeting.

The GHCA Nominating Committee would like to know who on the Board would prefer not to serve another year.  The Nominating Committee will fill the vacancies.  Also, the Chairmen of the various GHCA Committees will be reviewed at the April Board meeting to ensure all committees are intact.

Membership drive:  each member of the Board has been asked to bring to the April Board meeting a list of 5 or more names and addresses of citizens to receive a letter of introduction to the GHCA.  The names will be vetted against our membership list and then a letter will be developed to accompany our brochure for either mailing or hand-delivering.

Fire Station Building Committee: Progress has been made on the design of the building.  The building will consist of a 3-story administrative wing attached to the actual fire station apparatus section of the building.  The final cost will soon be released by the committee.

South Street Armory: one response to the RFP was received (Pirates’ Museum), which has been included on the town’s web site.  Bill Cronin asked each Board member to review the document on the web site and come prepared to discuss at the April Board meeting.

Voices of the Village:  The Board agreed to grant $150 to Hyannis Supporting Our Youth – this effort is a valuable service to greater Hyannis and we are pleased to support its continued effort.   The Town Council will hold a workshop on March 14 to review and finalize the remaining Landlord, Regulations, and Rentals ordinances (noise and maintenance).

Hyannis Distillery:  The GHCA is highly in favor of a distillery being located in town, but is concerned with the current proposed location next to Luke’s on Barnstable Road near the airport rotary.  That is a very congested area already.  The Board agreed to send a letter to the Planning Board stating our concerns.

The GHCA is in need of additional fund raising activities, and the idea of selling water, popcorn, cookies, etc. at the Father’s Day Car Show was discussed.

“A Conversation with the Town Councilors” will be held on April 17 in the Town Council room at the Town Hall at 7pm.  The set-up of the forum will be in a circular pattern to encourage a more casual discussion,
