- Volunteer a single day or more as a Mentor/Reader with the kids. You do not have to have pre-read the books. Just
show up and read to, or along with, the kids and then ask them about what they read.- Opportunities exist Monday through Thursday at the Hyannis Library from 11-12 or at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center from 4 to 5. (Urgent help is needed Wednesday and Thursday at the library and Monday and Wednesday at the Youth Center.)
- You will need to fill out a CORI form at one or both places depending on where you are volunteering, but you can
begin reading just as long as they have the form. - For more information or to volunteer call Moira Bundschuh at 508-827-4045 or email her at moirabundschuh@gmail.com or Barbara Klimm at 508-775-2282 or email her at bc.klimm@comcast.net.
- The other way to help is to buy some of the summer reading books and give them to the Library or to the Hyannis Youth and Community Center. Many of the summer reading books do not change year-to-year so a purchase made this year would be usable in future years. To see the books and their costs, go to www.barnstable.k12.ma.us/summerreading. Choose books from grades 4-8.
